I am concerned that the proposed development will increase traffic congestion on Dinas Powys's main road, already heavily congested and polluted, affecting nearby schools and residents. Flooding since 2020, alongside inadequate railway station facilities due to accessibility issues and ageing water infrastructure, exacerbates these issues. Local services such as healthcare and schools are already overstretched, and wildlife is at risk if greenfield sites are developed instead of brownfield. I urge planners to reconsider the site to avoid worsening traffic, infrastructure strain, and environmental impact.
The proposed development will cause a great deal of concern in reguards to vehicular traffic having to use the mian road through Dinas Powys. This road is heavily congested at the best of times, traffic fumes pollute the air and nearby is a school which the children who attend are breathing in these toxic fumes. Since December 2020 when the village suffered severe flooding causing almost 100 houses to be affected and damaged by flood water. In the years since Eastbrook has seen many instances of flooding along Cardiff Road nearly to Eastbrook Railway Station. Public transport already suffers as a result of gridlocked traffic Cardiff Bus who operate their 95 service have had to amend its route stopping in Cardiff City Centre due to not being able to maintain its scheduled timetable, to the Health Hospital. Our railway station at Eastbrook is not fit for purpose it fails to accommodate the needs of wheelchair users, parents with prams and persons using mobility scooters etc as no lifts are provided to get from one side to another. The station features highly as a vital part of this proposed development in regards to active travel. Another concern I have is that of infrastructure in drainage systems and water mains. Recently Dinas Powys suffered a massive water leak after a main pipe cracked in St David's Avenue. Dwr Cymru stated that Dinas Powys supply pipes are ancient and prone to further instances of failure. Our medical centre at the Murch is suffering with patient numbers increasing as a result of a closure of a practice in nearly Penarth. How will it cope with extra demand as a result of this proposed development. Our schools which are already oversubscribed will also be put under pressure. At the recent drop in events at Murchfield community centre many people with concerns were seeking answers from officials from VOG council who were unable to answer many questions which were asked. Wildlife featured highly in the area outlined in the proposal. To lose the greenfield site disastrous there surely is ample brownfield sites available for development. It seems Dinas Powys has been singled out because of it's extremely intensive means of public transport available, trains and buses. If this development goes ahead Cardiff Road will become one big continuous traffic jams. A further new road junction. A further set of traffic jams. More congestion. More harmful traffic jams. More pressure on aging infrastructure. I urge the planners to reconsider this development and site it elsewhere.
