I wish to object to the proposed development of approximately 380 homes on land adjacent to the A4226. My concerns are as follows:
1. Traffic and Road safety
The A4226 is a key route to Cardiff airport and the town centre, already congested at peak times. Additional traffic from 380 homes would worsen delays, reduce reliability and increase accident risk. New pedestrians crossing, while necessary would further interrupt traffic flow.
2. Strategic Access and Unsustainable Location
This route provides essential access to Cardiff access to Cardiff Airport. Increased congestion could effect passengers, staff and businesses. The site's location is likely to result in high car dependency, conflicting with sustainable transport principles in Planning Policy Wales.
3. Infrastructure and Environment
Existing drainage and sewage systems may not cope, risking overflows to the Millwood stream. The site supports protected species including bats and the development would cause habitat loss contrary to the biodiversity duty under the Envriomental (Wales) Act 2016.
4. Green Wedge and premature development
I object to the inclusion of this site within the green wedge in the RLDP. Green Wedges protect the open character of the countryside to prevent urban sprawl, and maintain separation between settlements. Development here would undermine these objectives. Combined with the local development plan still being under review, the proposal is premature and would result in permanent loss of greenfield land.
Conclusion: For these reasons, traffic, road safety, infrastructure pressures, environmental harm, unsustainable location, and loss of green wedge land- I ask that the council gives full weight to these concerns and refuses this application.
