I am English and have no Welsh language.
I was unaware of the Deposit RLDP and have struggled with changes due to being computer illiterate. I attended a consultation event, but felt frustrated as issues raised were not properly recorded, and the response to traffic concerns was inadequate. We have no useful bus service at this end of the road and the older population cannot walk. There is a shortage of doctors and have to visit other GP's. The RLDP insufficiently plans for future needs and will negatively impact local residents. The proposed housing development could house over 750 people, straining healthcare and education services.
I was not aware of the Deposit RLDP. I moved to the southern of edge of the Green Wedge 12 years ago when I knew the LDP ran along the boundary of our garden. As I am computer illiterate, I have not been able to keep up with relevant LDP changes.
I attended the public consultation meeting on Tuesday 26th June 2025 at Millwood Bowling club. I found it very frustrating as nobody seemed to be taking notes of issues raised. The Persimmon representative did not live in the area and was unaware of some of the problems raised. A member of the council, in response to traffic problem, just drew attention to the junction at the Merry Harrier in Penarth, as a possible solution for the problem at Port Road and the Waycock roundabout. (The Merry Harrier is regularly highlighted on the radio road report as delays). I came away from the meeting very frustrated and disillusioned.
We overlook Port Road West and see the queues of traffic morning and evening plus other times of the day. As there would be hundreds of cars joining this chaos at school time, there is no obvious alternative route to anywhere. The new Five Mile Lane is a great improvement but day by day it is getting busier now causing increased problems at the Waycock Cross roundabout. It is leading to a major accident happening.
Public transport is a non event. When we moved to Barry the buses ran down Pontypridd Road every 20 mins. We now have no useful bus service at this end of the road. Nant Talwg Way has an elderly population, and more and more of us are no longer driving but there is no alternative transport and we cannot walk into town or the train station.
The health needs of older people are increased and frequent visits to the hospital in Cardiff are required but no public transport is available. This is also true of visits to the GP surgery, dentist, and all other health facilities. The national situation of shortage of doctors is abundantly clear in this area, so we are frequently requested to visit other GP surgeries, when a car is necessary for transport. 375 houses could easily house 750 + people. This will exacerbate the health care provisions and must be increased before this huge number is realised.
A large number of these inhabitants will be school children and I doubt that local schools can accommodate this influx.
I oppose this version of the RLDP as it does not adequately plan for the future. It will have a major negative impact on residents already living in the area surrounding the proposed site.
