I am against this development for several reasons. 1] Flooding - I live in an area at risk of flooding from the River Cadoxton and regularly have flood alerts from the environment agency. Cardiff Road flooded a few weeks ago and I had water coming up my drive towards the house. Building all the houses on the proposed site will lead to more water entering the brook along Cardiff Road which cannot cope with severe rain as it is. This drains into the River Cadoxton which then floods houses within its path. 2] Traffic - Cardiff Road cannot cope with the traffic at present so more houses will equate to an average of 2 cars per property all entering Cardiff Road causing gridlock. 3] Lack of infrastructure - The doctors surgery is already over subscribed and causes great difficulty getting appointments. If all the new residents in the development register at the practice, getting an appointment will be impossible. The schools in the village are also full so where are all the children from the development going to go to school? 4] Active travel is not achievable - the station has limited access especially to the disabled and those with prams. The trains are unreliable and often get cancelled There are not enough parking spaces at the station to facilitate a park and ride service Walking routes are not suitable along Cardiff Road due to the narrow pavement on the brook side of the road and also the pollution used by the heavy traffic. 5] Congestion on Cardiff Road already makes it very hard for emergency vehicles to get through. All the extra vehicles will make this even harder. 6] Loss of green space. The village will become one with Llandough losing its village status. The land used for the houses means less green space for walking and will also have a huge impact on the wildlife.
I think this development is ill thought out and the council should consider more suitable sites. The Vale is a large area so why do all these houses have to be crammed into a village which is already too large for its infrastructure.
