I believe the proposal of the 250+ houses will be detrimental to Dinas Powys and the surrounding areas. These are a list of my concerns.
1. Natural Habitats and Biodiversity
Wild life habitats: Woodlands, grasslands, wetlands and ponds are frequently cleared, destroying homes for various species.
Biodiversity: The removal of vegetation and soil can lead to a decline in local wildlife, insects and plant life, contributing to the loss of nature.
Wildlife corridors: Developments often break up interconnected natural areas, preventing animals from migrating, foraging, or breeding which causes "FRAGMENTATION"
Ancient Trees and Hedgerows: Established, mature vegetation, that takes decades or centuries to grow can be removed in days.
2. Environmental and Physical Resources
Soil Structure: Top soil is often removed, compacted by machinery, or contaminated leading to soil erosion.
Peet lands and Carbon Sinks: The removal of natural carbon- storing landscapes removing stored carbon and destroying habitats that take thousands of years to form.
Water Quality and Hydrology:
Construction can cause pollution run off into rivers and streams, while increasing impermeable surfaces increases flood risk by affectively groundwater levels and flows.
Infrastructure capacity:
Local roads, schools can become overloaded and congested.
