Housing will cause increased congestion around Weycock Cross and the surrounding roads. The traffic is already backed up at peak times and this will increase with traffic from additional housing.
There will be an increase in need for GP, dentist and school places and these are currently facing capacity issues. Waiting times for doctor and dentist appointments are lengthy and will be further affected by the planned housing.
It appears that any available green or spare space is being built on, without consideration for wildlife and the detrimental impact on the environment these homes will have. There are already significant fields being built on and used around Barry for solar farms. Whilst this may be preferable to power stations or wind farms, it is still utilising green spaces and creating hostile environment for local wildlife.
The road surfaces in the Vale are atrocious and lack real investment in improving their condition on a long term basis. Increased traffic will cause further damage to an already unsuitable infrastructure. I note from the plans that the developers of the sites will be responsible for infrastructure changes around Weycock Cross to improve traffic flow, however given the lack of willingness to implement promises after building works were completed at the Waterfront development, this seems extremely unlikely to materialise and does not inspire confidence in their ability to pay other than lip service e.g. a low cost option such as another junction and set of traffic lights which will only exacerbate the traffic flow issues.
