1. This development would reduce the openness of the countryside and harm the Green Wedge that currently separates Barry, Rhoose and St Athan. This loss of open land would damage landscape character and local amenity, and increase pressure for the settlements to merge. Consequently, the proposal is inconsistent with the the Green Wedge background paper supporting the Vale of Glamorgan Local Development Plan 2011 - 2026.
2. This development would add heavy traffic to the already congested A4226, slowing access to Cardiff Airport and the A48/M4. Recent accidents on Five Mile Lane already cause hours of gridlock, and up to 360 new homes would significantly worsen this. The scheme lacks adequate mitigation and would increase delays at Colcot and Wenvoe roundabouts. With four secondary schools nearby generating peak‑time traffic, the extra vehicles would place unsustainable pressure on local roads and intensify existing congestion.
3. The position of the proposed site entrance ail to provide safe visibility for drivers and pedestrians. This could lead to queuing and conflict with through traffic, especially during busy periods.

This development would increase traffic on the now very congested A4226, reduce the free flow of vehicles to and from Cardiff Airport and also with the Five Mile lane leading to A48 (to Cardiff) and M4. I write this the day after another accident on the Five Mile Lane where the closure of the road caused gridlock for hours. The development of up to 360 new homes would add significant traffic to roads that are already congested. The proposal does not include adequate mitigation and would increase delays and queuing at Colcot and Wenvoe roundabouts. With four senior schools nearby generating heavy peak-time traffic, the additional vehicles from this scheme would place unsustainable pressure on local routes and worsen existing congestion.
2. The proposed entrance to the site is potentially dangerous and likely to cause traffic congestion. Its siting and design fail to provide safe visibility for drivers and pedestrians and could lead to queuing and conflict with through traffic, especially during busy periods.
