I have seen a huge increase in traffic along Cardiff Road over the years.
The current road layout cannot cope with the extra traffic these houses would generate. More cars would worsen congestion, lengthen commuting times, and increase emissions—especially concerning given the nearby infant school where young children are exposed to polluted air. Public transport is too limited to offset this impact. Higher traffic levels would also increase risks for pedestrians and cyclists, with gridlock and driver frustration raising the likelihood of serious accidents.
Local schools are already oversubscribed, and the GP surgery is operating at full capacity with limited appointment availability. Adding further housing would place unsustainable pressure on services that are already stretched.
The loss of additional green space is further endangering the local wildlife which has already been affected by recent developments.
People choose to live in Dinas Powys for its small‑village character and active community, but this is being erradicated by the continued building of houses which is creating a town‑like feel, and is likely to harm mental health.
It has recently come to my attention that there is a proposal to build approximately 250 houses on the outskirts of Dinas Powys and I am writing to express my objections to this proposal.
I currently live (and have for 15 years) on Cardiff Road and have seen a huge increase in traffic along the road over the years. I do not believe that the current layout of the road can accommodate the additional traffic that these houses will bring with them, let alone the impact it will have on commuting times and more importantly the emissions from cars being expelled to the local area / residents, especially noting an Infant School on the main road where very young children are playing outside breathing in these chemicals. Whilst I appreciate the desire to increase the number of residents using public transport to alleviate some of this impact, that too has its own issues such as number of train carraiges, infrequency of buses etc. It also creates an issue of safety for pedestrians and cyclist along this route as the more cars - and no doubt frustrated drivers who are unable to avoid the constant gridlock of traffic - the more chance of someone being seriously hurt.
I also believe that the current amenities in the village - schools, doctors etc are unable to accommodate any further residents as the schools are all over subscribed as are all the other local schools within a reasonable distance, and the GP Surgery is already acting at max capacity with regards to appointment availability.
Furthermore, the loss of additional green space is further endangering the local wildlife which has already been affected by the 3 latest developments in Dinas Powys in the last few years.
Finally, I believe that if this development goes ahead it will have a huge effect on residents' mental health in general, as for the most part people have chosen to live in Dinas Powys as it is a small village with a very active community and this is slowly but consistently being erradicated by the continued building of houses which is changing the area from a village to a town like feel.
