A very positive effect with greater use and take up of spaces
SF&G disagree with the current wording that begins with 'where appropriate and having regard to viability,' as it invites developers to argue this does not apply to their site. We suggest changing it to state that the Council aims to secure high-quality community infrastructure, facilities, and services appropriate to the development’s scale, type, and location with site viability a consideration. Community growing spaces should be provided, and references to allotments should be deleted, encouraging developers to create spaces of appropriate size with minimal capital costs (enabling 'community ownership'). The preferred approach remains on-site provision of facilities and infrastructure.

Social Farms & Gardens do not agree with the apporach to start with ' where appropriate and having regard to viability. this is an invitation for developers to argue this policy does not apply to their site. please change wording to - The Council will look to secure high quality new and improved community infrastructure, facilities, and services appropriate and commensurate to the scale, type, and location of proposed developments using planning obligations. delete reference to allotments. this should not be the go to type of food growing because developers will argue viability and that their site is too small etc. we want to ensure developers are encouraged to provide growing spaces commensurate to the size of development and in many cases this does not involve large capital outlays. blanker canvasses allow communities to take 'ownership' of the space.
6.230 The preferred approach will always be for developers to provide facilities and infrastructure on site to serve the future occupiers of the development. on site provision should always be the preferred option.
