I believe an integrated active travel network focusing on walking and cycling is unrealistic for the KS1 site. The Welsh Government’s sustainable transport aims require accessible, hindrance-free transport services, which are not available from this location. After ten years living near the roundabout, I confirm there are no reliable public transport links to major services. The elevation makes walking difficult, and most residents rely on cars. Building at KS1 will increase car traffic, worsen congestion, and deteriorate air quality, affecting pedestrians, drivers, and local residents.
'Integrated active travel network with particular emphasis on walking and cycling'? Not so for the KS1 site. It is is pure fantasy to imagine that. The Welsh Government's sustainable transport aims state a requirement for 'transport services and infrastructure that facilitate door-to-door movement without any hindrances' 2.1.16. No such links are available from this site. After 10 years living next to the roundabout I can state categorically that there is no reliable, punctual public transport from here to any major services. The elevation from Barry town or station makes this an impossible journey on foot for many residents. The car is king and will remain so for most journeys - for linking up with any major services, or for connecting to other modes of transport. There's little realistic prospect of increased public spending on public transport. Building at KS1 will expand car traffic exponentially. Traffic will become even more gridlocked daily and air quality will get worse - for pedestrians trying to navigate through the traffic, for drivers in long queues and for residents like us whose front doors and windows open directly onto the gridlock.
