The redevelopment of the former Aberthaw Power Station as the Cardiff Capital Region Aberthaw Green Energy Park will support sustainable economic growth, high-quality employment, and skills development, helping to retain and attract local communities. By integrating with regional transport improvements, including potential rail services at St Athan and Aberthaw, the development can enhance accessibility and community cohesion, further supporting the use and visibility of Welsh and contributing positively to the social and cultural well-being of the Vale of Glamorgan.
CCR Energy welcomes the RLDP’s emphasis on focusing development in locations well served by existing and proposed rail infrastructure, including the South Wales Metro. The redevelopment of the former Aberthaw Power Station as the Cardiff Capital Region Aberthaw Green Energy Park aligns with these objectives, supporting trip generation that can underpin a new rail station at St Athan. The proposals complement wider regional transport initiatives, including opportunities for additional freight and passenger services at Aberthaw / St Athan, promoting sustainable transport, reducing car dependency, and supporting the Vale of Glamorgan’s ambitions for low-carbon, accessible, and well-connected communities.
