I oppose the proposed construction of 250 houses in Eastbrook Dinas Powys due to several reasons. The need for new houses is questionable given the falling birth rate. Flooding risks will increase as development encroaches on flood plains, despite the proposed SuDS. Active travel is impractical for new residents, and existing services are at capacity. The village's identity may be compromised by merging with nearby communities, and wildlife habitats will be destroyed. Access issues caused by bus lane. The Eastbrook site was proposed a few years ago but was turned down, nothing has changed since.
We object to the proposal to build 250 houses in Eastbrook Dinas Powys for the following reasons:-
1) The requirement for 250 houses in Eastbrook is not needed in view of the falling birth rate.
2) The increased risk of flooding of the east brook and the River Cadoxton. Dinas Powys is subject to frequent flooding affecting a large number of properties. The building and concreting over of this flood plain will lead to a major increase in flooding events in the village. The proposal of SuDS is not a solution.
3) The proposal that Active Travel will be used by the new residents is ridiculous. The 250 houses proposed will result in at least 400 cars. Walking to Eastbrook railway station is impossible for wheelchair users, push chairs and anyone who is not fit due to the roadside infrastructure. The station has no access for these category of people to the Barry platform.
4) Services such as the Dinas Powys Medical Centre and the infant schools are already at peak capacity and cannot absorb the increased population.
5) The village would lose its identity by joining up with Llandough and Penarth. This would result in a loss of community wellbeing.
6) Destruction of the Gren Belt and particularly the wildlife would occur.
7) Access to the site will entail crossing the road lane set aside for ambulances, buses and taxis to avoid the already long tailback of traffic not only at peak times of day.
8) The Eastbrook site was proposed a few years ago but was turned down. We cannot see that anything has changed to make it viable now.
