I strongly oppose building houses in Dinas Powys due to increased flooding, lack of drainage, and removal of green space which worsens flooding and harms wildlife. Additional homes will increase traffic, pollution, and strain on local infrastructure, including schools, GP services, and emergency services. The green belt is being reduced, risking habitat loss and further flooding. Active travel options are limited, with stations lacking disabled access and streets congested. Infrastructure improvements are necessary before expanding housing, and current services are already overwhelmed.
Strongly disagree on the building of houses.
Flooding-Dinas Powys has so much flooding in recent years causing damage to houses, cars and infrastructure. There is no decent drainage in place-there is constantly flooding, water coming up through man holes. Removing green land which absorbs a lot of the water is a necessity.
Environment- Removing Greenland-which is already bogy and wet with streams of water due to rain is going to cause more flooding and devastation. Birds, foxes bats and other wildlife will be affected and reduced. Wildlife will be impacted.
Pollution-The road congestion is already at capacity. Traffic sitting outside the infant school must be impacting on the health of children. Living on the main road means I can not open my windows due to fumes off cars and lorry's. The roads are already damaged and not fit for purpose. Having an additional 250 homes will increase traffic by 500 additional cars. Where is the promised bypass!
Doctors and Schools- There is 1 GP practice. You can not get appointments now, never mind will additional houses bringing 5 people per home. Schools are over-subscribed. Infrastructure needs to be implemented before addition houses are built.
NHS-Emergency services struggle to get through Dinas Powys due to traffic blocking the roads. The additional building of houses will bring further demand on services which are already stretched.
Reduced Greenbelt-The green belt in Dinas Powys is being reduced. Soon Dinas Powys and Llandough will become one. The green belt is meant to be protected spaces. The green belt protects flooding and habitats for animals.
Active Travel-Although there are 2 train stations, one does not have disabled access. Buses do not always allow wheelchairs due to prams being in the spaces. There is limited parking at stations and streets are packed with cars.
