I object to the proposed development of 250 houses near Cardiff Road on health and environmental grounds. The increased traffic will worsen air pollution, make walking unsafe, and strain public services. It is unlikely that new residents will use public transport, leading to more congestion. Additionally, floods are a concern; further development may cause more water runoff, increasing flooding and sewage discharges into the sea. There is a real potential for services currently such as GP surgeries and schools to become overwhelmed. The current plans do not adequately address these risks, which threaten residents' wellbeing and the local environment.

This objection relates to the proposed development of 250 houses on land adjacent to Cardiff Road between Eastbrook and the Merrie Harriers junction. I wish to object on two grounds:
Health and Well being of the residents of Dinas Powys: The level of traffic currently using this route into and out of Dinas Powys is already at crisis point. The level of air pollution must be significant with traffic queuing at peak times - this is going to be exacerbated with an additional 250 households each of which will have at least 1 car. the impact on the daily lives of current residents will be significant. To walk along Cardiff Road currently is not a pleasant experience- the pavements are too narrow, with buses and lorries passing closely to pedestrians which can be frightening. With even more traffic this is only going to get more dangerous. Whilst there are currently public transport options available, it is short sighted to argue that these will be used by new residents - for families, parents often need to take children to school and them go straight to work, making the use of public transport not a viable option. This development will inevitable lead to an increase in road traffic on an already over whelmed infrastructure. the negative impact on the health and wellbeing of residents is significant. there is a real potential for services currently provided in Dinas Powys to be overwhelmed - access to GP services is already difficult, and I would also question if there are enough school places available
Impact on the environment: Flooding is already a real issue for Dinas Powys. More development will lead to more water run off into the Cadoxton River, increased risk of flooding and potential for more discharges of raw sewage into the sea. Having been a victim of flooding, I find the prospect of more frequent flooding events very worrying - I don't feel the current plans give any reassurance that this risk has been given sufficient consideration
