As a local resident I can confirm that the weight of traffic is such that any additional housing in this area will lead to complete gridlock. I can also confirm that the utility and drainage system is unlikely to cope with the additional load, Dynamos being on speed dial here and regularly attend when the sewage system backs up through the drains. There has been a vast increase in pedestrians on both Pontypridd Road & Port Road due to school proximity and the increased traffic, albeit slow moving, and new crossing points will present an increased hazard to school children.
The Weycock Cross proposal must be scrapped and alternative housing provided where the infrastructure, drainage and utilities can cope with it, and where unacceptable risks to school children from traffic would be less disastrous.As a council you have a duty of care to protect school children from unnecessary hazards and you are failing in this. There are brown field sites & empty houses throughout Barry & the Vale that could be used instead.
