The allocation of a further 250 homes at the planned site is directly off Cardiff Road which brings increased congestion in an area which is regularly at gridlock status.
Our road infrastructure is at capacity it cannot cope now let alone with the increase in the volume of cars that extra housing will bring.
The increase in traffic is particularly concerning given the proximity to Dinas Powys infant school. There are two major areas of risk, pupil safety and exposure to vehicle emissions. It raises the likelihood of accidents during drop off and pick up times. Increasing congestion makes visibility poorer for drivers and pedestrians. It creates increased dangers for families crossing the road at crossing points. Schools should be a safe zone where children can travel independently and confidently. Increasing traffic undermines that principle. Car fumes contain nitrogen oxide and pollutants known to negatively affect health. Increasing traffic leads to higher concentrations of those pollutants. A clear risk to children and families, compromising future health to everyone. The infrastructure support is inadequate, the doctors surgery and local schools are already at capacity. My last concern and probably the most worrying is additional homes in a flood prone area. Dinas Powys has flooded many times, more in recent years as our environment changes.
