I object to the above plan for two main reasons: increased risk of flooding and increased traffic.
I do not object in principle to adding new houses in Dinas Powys as I recognise the need to provide more homes, however prior to building new homes it is necessary to make improvments to the managment of the Cadoxton river and the road infrastructure.
The council will be aware of flooding which occured in the village in December and February 2020. Recently in early January 2026 there was an alert to residents who live in the most flood-sensitive parts of Dinas Powys, due to anticipated heavy rainfall. Due to Global warming it's inevitable that further flooding will occur and flood avoidance measures need to be planned. I have not seen evidence of significant improvements in managing potential flooding in the village since the 2020 floods. Measures neeed to be put in place to store water in the upper reaches of the river . Furthermore it's obvious that adding more housing with tarmac and concrete replacing fields will reduce the capacity of the land to absorb rainfall and furthe rincrease the risk of flooding . The risk of flooding needs to be reduced prior to further adding more stress on the drainage system.
I have lived in Dinas Powys for about 25 years and the traffic has increased significantly over the past 2-3 years. The traffiic is heavy on Cardiff Road which is the main thoroughfare between Cardiff and Barry through the village. The addition of significant new housing at the top of Murch Crescent (former site of the Dinas Powys part of St Cyres school) has further added to the traffic. I cycle along Cardiff Road from the village to llandough Hosptial on my way to work and know that the traffic at rush hour times is extremely slow, This situation is reversed at the end of the day with traffic proceeding very slowly heading through Dinas on the way to Barry. Adding further houses will of course further increase the problem . There is a therefore a strong need to increase the infrastructure of the road system , perhaps by providing a relief road parallel to Cardiff Rd, or by other means? prior to building new houses. I look forward to hearing your arguments on this matter and am happy to discuss it further.
