I oppose the proposal to build a large number of homes on land that currently acts as a flood defence for Dinas Powys and Michaelston-le-Pit, as this would increase flooding risk and cause structural issues. The development would result in significant loss of green space, wildlife, and ancient woodland, causing irreversible environmental damage. Existing infrastructure is already strained, with overcrowded healthcare, poor public transport, and deteriorating roads, which would worsen with increased population. I believe alternative brownfield sites should be considered to avoid damaging the community and environment.
This proposal for a large amount of homes to be built is absurd.
Firstly, the proposed land currently work as a flood defence for Dinas Powys AND Michaelston-le-Pit. If homes were to be built on this land, this would both increase the risk of flooding in both areas (which is already poorly managed) and create structural issues to the proposed development.
Secondly, there would a great loss of green space, damage to wildlife and loss of ancient woodland. This currently provides benefits to those who live in and outside of the area - building homes would cause irreversible damage to the land. Moreover, the increase in population would create more noise and air pollution.
Thirdly, the current infrastructure of Dinas Powys can't cope with the current amount of residents living there - let alone proposing thousands of more new residents! For example, the doctor's surgery is already working in tandem with other local practices who are inundated with patients. Though there are regular trains, the overall public transport is poor due to overcrowding on trains and a lack of regular buses. Moreover, the road conditions in Dinas Powys, Michaelston-le-Pit and the Pen y Turnpike are abysmal. The work conducted to maintain the roads is laughable, and I'm sure the proposal for thousands of new homes doesn't include creating new roads/a bypass/improving the current roads.
I understand that there is a need for new homes. However, there are plenty of brown-sites or land elsewhere that would not cause huge issues for any existing, and potentially incoming, residents. This development should not go ahead, as it would cause irreversible damage to the community and environment.
