I strongly object to the proposed construction of 250 houses at Eastbrook, Dinas Powys, citing concerns over increased traffic congestion, inadequate infrastructure, and pressure on local services. Having lived in Dinas Powys since 1968, I have witnessed significant growth that has worsened traffic, strained the health centre, and overburdened schools. The roads are already dangerous, with emergency services struggling to navigate. Building on this site would worsen flooding, diminish wildlife, and destroy the village’s character. I believe this development is inappropriate and oppose it entirely.
We wish to register our strong objection to the proposed building of 250 houses at Eastbrook, Dinas Powys, on the grounds of increased traffic congestion and already overburdened facilities in the area.
Having been residents of Dinas Powys since 1968, when it was truly a village, with all its appeal, we have witnessed such enormous changes, mainly due to population increase, which has brought about traffic congestion, pressures on our local health centre and the two schools in the area. Cardiff Road is gridlocked now at most times of the day so how access to the proposed site of these new houses from Cardiff Road can be possible we can’t begin to comprehend. It is also the route to Llandough Hospital for ambulances etc that serve the wider Vale. Their sirens are always sounding as they try to get through the traffic on Cardiff Road and often it means them mounting the pavement in order to negotiate this. The road is narrow and you take your life in your hands walking along the narrow pavements in Eastbrook, totally inadequate for children accessing the school. The Merrie Harrier junction nearby is already a death trap without any extra volume of traffic using it heading towards Cardiff and Penarth. We lived on the main road in Eastbrook for over 50 years, so are very familiar with the traffic problems. When we moved there in 1968 a bypass was being discussed due to the traffic, but 58 years later there has been no progress. The area is totally inconvenient for accessing any of the facilities Dinas Powys has (shops, health centre, schools) and the public transport (buses) is poor.
It is difficult to get an appointment at the local health centre as it is, without a possible 500+ more patients, and the local schools are at bursting point. Dinas Powys suffers from flooding which building on the proposed site would surely contribute to more risk. It could never be called a village again with such a huge population and joined up to Llandough, losing a part of the countryside which now separates it and is important for wildlife.
This proposal is absolutely insane and we strongly object to it going ahead.
