The proposals will cause negative impact on Dinas Powys, ruining village identity and rural nature of the area, destroying wildlife habitats and SSSI locations.
The road network is already unable to cope with existing traffic: pedestrian, cycle and equestrian use is dangerous with no pavement in sections, a situation made worse by adding 500 or more vehicles.
Cardiff Road, Mill Road and St Andrews Road are all prone to flooding, being impassable at times, and likely worsened by run off from the proposed development.
NHS Services, public transport and schools are overwhelmed and increased local population will exacerbate this problem.
If the proposed site for new housing north of Dinas Powys (site ID 444) goes ahead it will cause significant negative impact on the local area and existing population. The population of Dinas Powys (7,894 source 2021 Census) will be increased by up to 1,000 new residents (with up to 500 additional motor vehicles), forever ruining the village identity and rural nature of the area.
The greenbelt countryside around Dinas Powys, and the village identity will be lost forever to the detriment of residents and visitors alike. Wildlife habitats and nearby SSSI locations will be adversely affected. These areas should be protected and not subject to adjustment to suit an unsustainable housing development agenda.
The site will result in unacceptable levels of increased traffic in Dinas Powys. The existing road network is insufficient for current traffic levels at peak times, with roads at Argae Lane, St Andrews Road, Westra, Cardiff Road and the village square already subject to unacceptably high levels of vehicular traffic and unable to support increased traffic without substantial improvements that are impractical and in some areas impossible due to the nature of the existing rural road network.
Regular pedestrian, cycle and equestrian use of the roads around Westra, Argae Lane, Dinas Powys village square, Penyturnpike, Mill Road, Cardiff Road and St Andrews Road is already dangerous particularly at peak times and near the local primary schools, with no pavement available in large sections of these roads, a situation that will be made much worse with up to 500 additional vehicles using them if the planned housing development goes ahead.
Narrow pinch points along most of Argae Lane (single lane traffic only) and sections of Westra and St Andrews Road already suffer as a result of existing traffic levels and are dangerous for other road users and prone to delays and congestion. Existing housing along Westra and St Andrews Road already suffers from dangerous driving behaviour and excess speeds by vehicles using the narrow roads as a cut through from Barry to Cardiff and Penarth.
Cardiff Road, Mill Road and St Andrews Road are all prone to flooding making them impassable at times during autumn and winter months and this will be made worse by increased run off from the development site.
Existing NHS Services, Schools, Dentists, Opticians and Doctors surgeries are already overwhelmed, and additional housing around Cross Common Road and The Murch in recent years have made this worse with no additional services or facilities provided. Further population increase around Dinas Powys will make this worse.
