There will be more non Welsh speakers due to the large influx of social housing tenants who’s demographic is majority non Welsh speakers. This will lead to a dilution in the use of Welsh language in the area.
I am concerned that the development will increase congestion, with 250 homes adding 300-500 cars, worsening the already at-capacity Cardiff Road and Culverhouse Cross. Flooding risks will rise due to increased water runoff entering the Cadoxton River, which has previously flooded homes. Healthcare and education services are at full capacity, and emergency services will be overwhelmed. The development threatens wildlife habitats and reduces green belt boundaries, eroding the village’s identity. Limited access to Eastbrook train station and existing infrastructure issues further support my opposition to this development.
Increased congestion - 250 homes could bring 300-500 additional cars. Cardiff Road and Culverhouse Cross are already at capacity 5 years ago and there have been no subsequent upgrades.
Increased flooding - water run off from the Eastbrook site will enter the Cadoxton River which has burst and flooded homes in Dinas Powys many times. More homes means more discharge of raw sewage into the sea.
Doctors and schools are already at capacity, local primary and secondary schools are full and oversubscribed. No ongoing consultation with GP service.
Emergency services, first responders, A&E and maternity facilities will all be directly affected by the additional demand and congestion brought on by the development.
Loss of wildlife - development will destroy vast habitats for wildlife.
Reduced green belt - big reductions to the green belt boundary merging Dinas Powys to Llandough. These boundaries are meant to be protected spaces, not adjusted to fit an agenda.
Active Travel - limited access to Eastbrook train station. No viable pedestrian access and inadequate parking at the station. Cardiff Road already at capacity. Highways have already objected to this development due to this reason.
Losing village identity - Dinas Powys population is continually increasing and will lose its identity as a village.
