I object to the proposed development of 250 houses in Dinas Powys, citing increased congestion on Cardiff Road, limited parking, and poor pedestrian access to Eastbrook train station. I am concerned about the loss of green belt, mature hedgerows, and local wildlife, as well as the erosion of Dinas Powys’s identity. The development risks worsening flooding issues and overburdening existing services like schools and healthcare. I believe there are alternative brownfield sites elsewhere in the Vale that would cause less harm to residents, the environment, and local infrastructure.
I strongly object to this land being allocated for development for 250 houses in Dinas Powys. This will lead to an obvious increase in congestion along Cardiff Road which is already at capacity during peak times. Traffic has already increased following the addition of Scholars Park and Caerwent Gardens and you are continuing to add traffic to an already over used road. As a Dinas Powys resident, travelling along this route requires sitting in bumper to bumper traffic, causing pollution and this proposal will only exacerbate this problem. There is already limited parking at Eastbrook train station and no viable pedestrian access to the station. If development is supposed to be in line with sustainability in mind, how do you propose the residents access the train station? They won't! They will all use their cars which will add to the road network problem. The proposal will reduce the green belt and destroy mature hedgerows and vegetation resulting in a loss of wildlife. The proposed 'new planting' will not adequately resolve the damage caused by the new proposal. Dinas Powys is isolated from other towns and is proud of its stand alone identity. Your constant development within the village is resulting in its loss of identity - the very thing that gives Dinas Powys its appeal - you are fast eroding and seem intent on destroying. There are plenty of other brown field sites that could be developed before destroying another greenfield site. Dinas Powys already suffers from flooding problems and has this has been exacerbated recently with frequent storms and climate change. This estate would only add to the problem with additional pressure being put on existing waterways which are already at capacity during heavy rainfall.You are being extremely irresponsible and endangering existing residents to more flooding with this proposal. Schools and NHS services in Dinas Powys and Penart are already at capacity, where on earth will the children be educated and access GP services? There must be other alternative options within the Vale which could be developed that would have a less detrimental impact on services, residents and the environment so that you can meet housing targets.
