I am writing as a concerned resident of Dinas Powys, regarding the proposed development of 250 dwellings off Cardiff Road.

There is simply not sufficient infrastructure or capacity in place to support this number of additional residents, and therefore vehicles, in this location. This particular location is one of the worst positions in the Vale for traffic, with the single lane and traffic lights not allowing enough traffic flow and causing significant disruption at any time where there may be a heavier flow of traffic.

Unless this infrastructure and capacity is addressed, whether that be an additional traffic lane by allowing the bus lane to be used by general traffic outside of peak times, or adding an additional lane by purchasing some of the (apparently) readily available land alongside Cardiff Rd, this would cause chaos every morning, school pick up and drop off and 5-7pm every day.

As you are well aware, Dinas is already used as a through-route for Barry residents gaining access to Cardiff, adding an additional 500-1000 vehicles in a single lane, in a small village area will be catastrophic to the area.

In addition to the additional traffic, lessons should have been learned from the Taylor Wimpey development in Sully, which caused catastrophic surface water to flood residents homes. These large developers do not care about the communities that they build in; they care about the money that they can make. It is absolutely abhorrent that Council revenue is being put above tax paying residents best interests.

Myself and fellow residents highly doubt you will consider any of our responses, and that this is already a done deal, which is obviously very concerning. It’s felt that this is more of an engagement exercise for you, instead of a ‘consultation’. However, I needed to address mine and the concerns of fellow residents given the opportunity.
