I did not attend the consultation due to feeling uncomfortable about expressing my support for the housing development because of aggressive behaviour from some elderly neighbours and misinformation online. I believe many young families in Dinas Powys want to stay in the village but face a housing shortage. I suggest constructive dialogue about road access, and personally, I think a better entrance to the site, would be on the disused old tarmac patch between the Merrie Harrier, and the church by those traffic lights. That would reduce traffic on Cardiff Road, or better yet, build the fabled Dinas Powys Bypass. I urge decision-makers not to yield to the vocal minority and to prioritise building the much-needed houses for young families.

I would like to add to my email below. I did not attend the consultation event, but I have seen the incessant aggressive grumblings from our elderly village neighbours, and would like to state that, despite what they claim, they do not speak for all Dinas Powys residents. In fact part of my reason for not attending was that I didn’t feel comfortable being able to state my feelings that I want these houses to be built, as I feared my vociferous neighbours would take personal offence as they cannot disagree amicably, and direct their pitchforks towards my family. That’s not a nice position to be in, and I will raise it with the community council, if and when I get a suitable opportunity.
Also, the fake news misinformation posted online by some council members (pictures of bulldozers from google to announce a consultation event, misleading people that the groundwork is underway), is disgusting and adds to the feeling that I cannot state my view.
There are many young families in Dinas Powys, that are desperate to move house and want to stay in Dinas, within the schools catchment area, but we cannot as there are no houses available. Having to wait for new builds is frustrating enough, but if these houses don’t get built, it will mean my family, and others like us, will be forced to leave the village. This is something those aggressive elderly Facebook boomers are completely disregarding, whilst claiming to speak for all residents of Dinas Powys.

Please please please, do not give in to the vocal minority; the busybody old codgers with nothing better to do. Please build the houses that young families of Dinas Powys so desperately need.
