At the January 2026 Town Council meeting, we discussed the future of the former Eagleswell School site. The Vale of Glamorgan Council plans to develop housing there once temporary units are removed, with ongoing support for a new Health Centre, though there has been no firm commitment from the Health Board. We will continue to advocate for the Health Centre and also petition for a new Old People's Care Facility on the site, to serve Llantwit Major’s ageing population and meet the current demand for pensioners’ accommodation.
Identify Former Eagleswell School Site for the location for a new Health Centre and a new Old People's Care Facility on the site.
Former Eagleswell School Site
At the Full Town Council meeting held on 29
the January 2026, the Town Council was presented with
an agenda brief and discussed the future of the former Eagleswell School site.
Councillors noted that the Vale of Glamorgan Council has identified this site for a housing development, when the temporary housing units are removed. There is also ongoing support for a Health Centre to be built on this land, which the Town Council has always argued for. Unfortunately, there has been no meaningful commitment from the Health Board to build the much needed Health
Centre on the site, but the Town Council will continue to push for this.
Without diminishing our wish for a Health Centre, the Town Council wish to petition the Vale of Glamorgan Council to commit to building an Old People's Care Facility on the site. It is felt that the site is large enough to accommodate all these services.
Barry has several Old People's Care facilities, as does Penarth. Cowbridge has one and there are private facilities in Rhoose and St. Athan. There is nothing in Llantwit Major despite its growing population and there is a clear need for a facility as there is clear evidence Llantwit Major is an ageing population.
The Town also needs increased provision for pensioners accommodation as Crawshay Court is the
only Council facility in the Town, and we have received reports that this is in need of works and
updating.
