I object to the proposed development of approximately 500 homes off Cardiff Road, citing concerns over strained local infrastructure. Schools, healthcare, and GP services are already at capacity, with no clear plans for expansion. The development would worsen traffic congestion, increase journey times, and impact safety and air quality. It would also harm the area's character by creating urban sprawl and diminishing the semi-rural feel. I believe approval should be withheld unless firm, funded plans are in place to address these issues.
Unless there are firm, funded and deliverable plans in place to address education provision, healthcare access, traffic infrastructure, and the protection of the area's character, I strongly believe this development should not be approved.
I am writing to formally object to the proposed new housing development of approximately 500 homes off Cardiff Road.
My primary concern is that the existing local infrastructure is already under significant strain. Local schools are currently operating at or near capacity, and it is increasingly difficult to secure GP and dental appointments in the area. There has been no clear evidence provided that adequate additional school places or medical services will be delivered in line with this development.
In addition, Cardiff Road is already heavily congested on a daily basis, particularly during peak morning and evening hours. The introduction of up to 500 new households will inevitably result in a substantial increase in traffic, further worsening congestion, increasing journey times, and negatively impacting road safety and air quality.
I am also concerned about the impact this development will have on the character of the area. The proposal would result in a continuous build-up of housing estates, removing the remaining sense of separation and identity of our local community. This development would effectively link directly through to Llandough Hospital, resulting in urban sprawl rather than sensitive, well-planned growth. The loss of this distinct and semi-rural feel would significantly alter the nature of the area and reduce the quality of life for existing residents.
Unless there are firm, funded and deliverable plans in place to address education provision, healthcare access, traffic infrastructure, and the protection of the area's character, I strongly believe this development should not be approved.
