I support establishing a Green Wedge between Llantwit Major and Llanmaes to protect Llanmaes' rural character, historic sites, and listed buildings. The Green Wedge will prevent coalescence with Llantwit Major and preserve Llanmaes as a small, thriving village with agricultural roots. It is accessed via narrow lanes used by pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders, and agricultural traffic. This measure aligns with the Boundary Commission’s proposed changes and aims to maintain Llanmaes as part of a network of small villages.

In order to preserve the conservation status of Llanmaes as a small rural village community with agriculture as its mainstay, including a Church dating back to 1234, ancient ruins, listed dwellings, the setting up of this Green Wedge is essential. It will also ensure there is no risk of coalescence betwee Llanmaes and the nearby small town of Llantwit Major.
Llanmaes is a small , but thriving community accessed from Siggingston, St Mary Church, St Athan, Eglwys Brewis, and indeed Llantwit Major by a network of narrow unclassed lanes. These are enjoyed by walkers, horse riders, cyclists and of course shared by motor vehicles, incuding numerous working agricultural traffic. The proposed Green Wedge would serve to conserve this village as part of a network of small villages , which it is important to preserve, and is of particuar relevance as Llanmaes will form part of a group of villages as part of the Boundary Commission's recommended changes.
