With reference the Housing Development 2299 - Land to the west of MaendyRoad, Aberthin, I would like to point out the unsuitability of thi site for development.
When Maes Lloi was developed, care was clearly taken to preserve the historic nature of the village of Aberthin by building bungalows and not 2-story houses. If this site were approved for further development, I am sure the developer would need to build 2-story houses to fit 25 on a site of this size which would be totally out of keeping with the structure of the village. 25 4/5 bedroom bungalows would require a much larger ground area.
Aberthin village is clearly part of the attractive views of this part of the Vale as seen from the round Cowbridge footpath on Stalling Downs, and the high ground around Penllyn Castle. A development of any type on this site would stick out from the existing village boundary and definitely scar this view. Certainly 25 2-story houses would stand out like the proverbial 'sore thumb'.
This proposed development would further increase traffic hazards through the village. Despite the sign-posted 20 mph speed limit, my own personal observations show that more than 50% of the through traffic totally ignore this speed limit.
It is for these reasons that I consider this proposed site unsuitable for development.
