I am writing to formally submit my objections regarding the proposed Local Development Plan (LDP) candidate sites in Llandough and Dinas Powys. Specifically, I am objecting to Site 444 (Eastbrook/Cardiff Road), Site 400 (Penlan Hill), and Site HG1 KS2.
My grounds for objection are outlined below:
1. Pressure on Local Infrastructure and Roads
The local road network, particularly the primary routes through Dinas Powys and Llandough, is already at absolute capacity. Increasing the volume of housing via sites such as 444 and HG1 KS2 will lead to further gridlock on the Cardiff Road. The existing infrastructure is insufficient to support the resulting increase in traffic, posing risks to both road safety and local air quality.
2. Lack of Sustainable Travel Options
Despite the proximity to existing settlements, these sites suffer from a lack of adequate travel infrastructure. Without significant improvements to public transport and safe pedestrian/cycle links, these developments will remain car-dependent, further exacerbating the congestion issues mentioned above.
3. Destruction of Green Belt and Woodland
The proposed development of Site 400 (Penlan Hill) and the sites in and around Llandough would result in the irreversible destruction of the local Green Belt. Furthermore, I am deeply concerned about the impact on local sites of woodland interest. These areas provide essential ecological buffers and are vital for local biodiversity; their removal for housing is environmentally unjustifiable.
4. Cumulative Impact
The inclusion of multiple sites, including the "small" section off Cardiff Road (Site 444) and the developments in Llandough, represents an over-development of the area. While I note that Site 429 (Pen-y-Turnpike Road) was not accepted, the remaining proposed sites still place an unsustainable burden on the community.
I trust that these points will be fully considered during the evaluation process.
