I believe that increasing housing in Southerndown would harm its status as an area of outstanding natural beauty, turning it into overpopulated and degraded like Ogmore by Sea. The existing campsite fosters community spirit, especially in summer, and benefits local businesses. It provides a valuable, affordable outdoor experience for visitors exploring the coast. The area is peaceful, and the upcoming development of the ‘Old Blind Home’ will be nearby. I oppose further housing due to concerns over sewage, flooding, increased noise, traffic, and litter, and believe the appeal should be rejected.
Providing more housing to an area of outstanding beauty and no amenities would turn Southerndown into another overpopulated ruined area that happened to Ogmore by Sea. Having the existing camp site builds a community feel, especially throughout the summer months and adds a lot of business to our local restaurant and pubs. Having a campsite in a beautiful picturesque place like Southerndown is important for people and families from all over the UK to camp at reasonable rates and explore the coastline, the beaches and fields around. This is a peaceful hamlet. We already have the pending forthcoming development of the ‘Old Blind Home’, which will happen at some point and will be directly opposite the proposed campsite development. It will be a nightmare to add even more housing to this area. Where will the sewage go? The land behind the pub appears to be on a flood plain. This appeal must be stopped. More noise and traffic and litter to the community is not welcome.
