I share concerns about increased traffic in the village due to the new retail unit, especially on Gileston Road, which is narrow and already has resident parking. I am worried about off-road parking levels and additional traffic from the centre. While I welcome the plan to widen Gileston Road, I am concerned about environmental impacts from hedge loss. I agree that replacing traffic lights with a roundabout near the war memorial could improve traffic flow and am also concerned about the effects on local infrastructure, including health services, public transport, and emergency services.
I would echo the concerns regarding the following:
Increased traffic flow in the village to visit the new retail unit.
Access to the retail unit along Gilston Road currently seems inappropriate given the width of that street, current resident parking and inevitable increases in traffic, both private and commercial.
Concerns about the levels of off road parking in the village centre and the extra traffic the new centre will attract.
Pleased to note that there are plans to widen the Gilston Road - this would seem the only way to facilitate some sort of sensible flow - but I am concerned about the impacts on the environment with hedge loss.
I would echo the concerns of the local council and suggest that a roundabout rather then traffic lights by the war memorial would be prudent to enhance traffic flow.
Also impacts to infrastructure such as doctors, public transport and emergency services.
