This is entirely dependant on the backgrounds of the residents that would be provided such housing. I would argue that the language spoken within a household is irrelevant when considering a housing development and merely a box ticking exercise that ignores the fundamental issues at play.
My objection concerns the disproportionate and repeated targeting of Wick for affordable housing provision, and the cumulative impact this is having on the character, identity, and sustainability of the village.
Wick has already made a significant and demonstrable contribution to the Vale of Glamorgan’s affordable housing supply on two recent occasions. The St James Gardens development and the Wales & West Housing site both delivered substantial affordable housing provision within a relatively small village. The current proposal would represent the third major affordable housing development imposed on Wick in a short period of time.
It is particularly concerning that Wick continues to be targeted while other areas within the Vale of Glamorgan, which are demonstrably more suitable for development and where impacts on existing residents would be significantly less, remain largely untouched. A fair and sustainable planning strategy should distribute affordable housing more evenly across the county rather than relying repeatedly on the same communities.
The proposed scale of development at Heol Fain is out of proportion to the size of Wick and would result in a level of growth that is neither organic nor reflective of the village’s existing form. Such an approach undermines the principles of balanced growth and placemaking set out in planning policy.
