The Company feels that Wenvoe Quarry should be identified by the Plan as a suitable location for residues arising from the treatment of Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) which has previously been subjected to recycling (according with national policy) or material not suitable for recycling such as clays would be imported. Such a facility would be a direct replacement for the closed Whitehall site in the Vale; indeed the Company believes there are no such facilities remaining in the greater Cardiff area and that the closest, Hendy Quarry in Rhondda Cynon Taf is close to closure. Such a development presents a significant opportunity to both improve biodiversity and health and safety through the restoration of the quarries void by importing suitable restoration materials and this should be specifically recognised by the Plan through designation. A drawing illustrating a potential restoration concept is submitted.
